Want to know what life is like along the Mexican-US border in Mexicali, Mexico? Or what it’s like to serve in Cuba?
On Tuesday, April 23, Mercy Gonzalez-Barnes, a missionary with International Ministries, also known as American Baptist International Missions Society, will speak at the First Baptist Church in Belfast at 7:00 p.m.
Commissioned in 2000, Mercy spent the first 13 years of her ministry teaching at a seminary in Mexicali. She is now using the experiences and skills accrued during those years of teaching, mentoring and walking alongside men and women who have felt the call of God and applying them to a wider ministry of responding to diverse educational and theological needs in Latin America. In addition, Mercy will be part of a team walking alongside the ministry of Cuban Baptists.
When she was named to that position, Mercy wrote, “I am responding to this new call and emphasis in my ministry with fear and trembling, but also with excitement as I am also being stretched to continue to grow and to be aware of the many diverse needs of our Latin American partners. This is an exciting time of change in Cuba, and in that spirit, I continue to ask for your continued support of this ministry and for your prayers as our family transitions to this new responsibility.”
Prior to Mercy’s talk, a potluck supper will be served at 6:00 p.m. The public is welcome at both events. The Belfast First Baptist Church is located at 95 High Street.
