A screening and discussion of the documentary “Resilience: The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope” will be held at First Baptist Church, 95 High St., Belfast, on Sunday, October 28, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The one-hour documentary delves into the science of adverse childhood experiences, such as the effects of abuse and neglect, domestic violence, divorce, a parent in jail and substance abusing parents. The toxic stress from these childhood experiences can alter brain development and lead to heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression
But the documentary goes beyond that to address the new movement to treat and prevent toxic stress from those childhood events. Using the theory that what is predicable is preventable, Resilience discusses how to use cutting-edge science to help the next generation break the cycles of adversity and disease.
Local child advocate Patrick Walsh will lead the discussion following the documentary. For more information, call Walsh at 338-2200 or email: email@example.com.
